Mondays • Boston, MA January 8 to February 12, 2018 (6 Week Session)
5:00–6:00pm Lindy Hop Level 1 (6 weeks)

Featured topic for this session: Spins & Turns!

Level 1 classes get a mix of brand new dancers and continuing students. There are several different sessions at this level, each with new content, which can be taken in any order. Included this session, we’ll get you started with spins and turns for both follows and leads. We’ll cover technique on how to do them, how to lead and follow, adding to basics, plus some other fun variations.

Students are recommended to stay at this level long enough both to cover many of the important elements of Lindy Hop as well as to feel very comfortable with what’s taught before moving to the next level. The aim is to work on developing a solid foundation of dance skills while building a repertoire of moves for social dancing. Discount after 2 full sessions. (No experience required to join.)

Featured topic for this session: Swingouts!

Level 1 classes get a mix of brand new dancers and continuing students. There are several different sessions at this level, each with new content, which can be taken in any order. This session we’ll be getting down to the nitty gritty of swingouts, a move Lindy Hoppers can’t live without! If you already know swingouts and want to work on refining them, this will be a good class for you. We’ll focus on how to lead and follow to make them feel so good, along with some variations. In addition, we’ll be including a selection of other moves to get you out on the dance floor.

8:00–9:00pm Partner Routine, Part 1

January brings the start of a new routine, and this year for something different, the focus will be on Collegiate Shag! We expect to throw some other things into the mix as well, and there may be parts where everyone is not doing the same thing. It will not be necessary to already know Shag in order to participate, however, the class will be aimed at higher level dancers. A good portion of the steps in the choreography will be transferable to the social dance floor.

Part 1 will be about learning the routine while focusing on rhythm and musicality. Doing choreography is fun, challenging, and a great way to work on your individual and social dance skills! Lead-follow partnering will be emphasized in class.

Part 2 of this class will continue in the following session. The focus will be on performance, teamwork, formation and practice! We’ll be aiming to do our first performance in mid April.

This routine is aimed at an Int/Adv to Adv level and partners are required for the class. You do not need to commit to doing the 2 sessions or to performing in order to attend the first session. There will be scheduled practice time after class, plus practicing outside of class is also strongly encouraged.

Let us know if you would like to attend and need help finding a partner.
