7:00–8:30pm Frankie Doo! (2 weeks)

Back when we were beginner Lindy Hoppers, we learned the Tranky Doo, although it was not the same as is popularly danced today. We did not know at the time that it was choreographed by Frankie Manning. It’s now been named the Frankie Doo and has resurfaced so we don’t forget this special version. In honor of Frankie month coming up in May, we’ll be teaching it over a 2 week session, just in time for our Frankie celebration at Uptown Swing that month. If you already know Tranky Doo, the beginning is the same, and then it quickly moves to something very different. Join us to learn Frankie style! All levels are welcome to attend.

6:30–7:30pm Lindy Hop Level 1 (6 weeks)

Featured topic for this session: Musicality!

Level 1 classes get a mix of brand new dancers and continuing students. There are several different sessions at this level, each with new content, which can be taken in any order. Musicality is always an important feature of dancing. In this session we’ll focus on getting the feel of the rhythm, breaking down the structure of the songs we dance to, and connecting it to how you dance. Included will be ways to adjust your basics to fit the music, along with some fun steps to play with.

Students are recommended to stay at this level long enough both to cover many of the important elements of Lindy Hop as well as to feel very comfortable with what’s taught before moving to the next level. The aim is to work on developing a solid foundation of dance skills while building a repertoire of moves for social dancing. Discount after 2 full sessions. (No experience required to join.)

7:30–7:50pm Stay after class for practice and question time!
7:50–8:50pm Doin’ It Old School

The first time we saw Lindy Hop, we were hooked! It was lively, exciting and joyful. Different from the swing dancing we were used to. There’s been a lot of evolution over the years, however, we’ve not lost our passion for that classic look and feel of Lindy Hop. In this class we’ll focus on some of those hardcore moves we don’t see enough of on the dance floor today. Included will be footwork variations for swing outs, flashy Charleston moves, barrel rolls and more! Aimed at social dancing, yet also the kinds of things you can pull out for performances, competitions and jam circles.

Previous Lindy Hop experience is required, including knowledge of 8 count basics. (For intermediate and up.) Discount for each class if you take this one plus Katie’s Riff Academy class in the earlier time slot.
