Dean Collins Styling

From the Washington DC area, Jeff has
been dancing for more than four years. His focus and love
is swing era Lindy Hop. He has learned from studying the history
extensively, spending countless hours watching swing era dance
footage, as well as talking to many of the dancers from that
period. He placed in the 1998 American Lindy Hop Championships
and US Open Lindy divisions. He has taught in many
places around the country such as Detroit (Motor City Jam),
Philadelphia, Houston (H-Town, Great Southwest Lindy
Fest), Austin (Swing Riot), and of course, DC.
Jeff is teaming up with Marina, who recently
moved to DC from Santa Barbara, California. She has studied
extensively with Sylvia Sykes (who learned directly from Dean
Collins) and is well versed in Lindy Hop as well as Balboa.

Sham (Part 1)
(non-partner, no experience required)
For those who know the regular Shim
Sham, this class will cover the first half, the way
Dean Collins did it. For those who don't know the Shim
Sham, this class is a great introduction to the dance.

Lindy Hop 1
(no experience or partner needed)
Covering the basics (such as swingout/whip)
with a focus on lead and follow, connection... doing
things Dean's way. Great for all levels. |

Lindy Hop 2
(follows on from B)
Adding on to the basics, working on
moves and variations, such as Dean's Flying Lindy. |

Dean Collins Shim
Sham (Part 2)
(follows on from A)
Continues where Part 1 left off,
adding on to complete the routine. This half is mostly
steps unique to Dean's version of the Shim Sham. |

REGISTRATION
Full payment required to hold your spot. Partners not required
for any workshops. Same price to watch workshops. No refunds
after start of workshop. No videotaping permitted. If pre-registered,
please arrive at least 15 minutes before your first workshop
each day to allow time to check-in and warm-up. If not pre-registered,
please arrive 30 minutes early to allow time to register
(space permitting). If you are not able to pre-register, please
still submit an on-line registration
form to help speed your registration on the day.

SHOES & BAGS: Please
be sure to bring clean dry sneakers (smoother soles have less
traction and are better, allowing for easy turning) or soft-soled
flat dance shoes. (Please, no hard soled, or black rubber
soled shoes that leave marks.) Please change shoes on the
entrance mat to help prevent outside wet, salt and grit from
getting on the wooden floor. Please leave all bags and street
shoes outside the gymnasium so as to maximize the dance space.
