Skye Humphries & Naomi Uyama

Lindy Hop Workshop Weekend
Uptown Swing Dance with Gordon Webster

Friday, November 25, 2022 - 7:30pm to Sunday, November 27, 2022 - 5:30pm

The 13th year for this wonderful weekend with Skye Humphries, Naomi Uyama, plus Gordon Webster at Uptown Swing Dance on Saturday night. Always a highlight of the year. Don’t miss it!

Skye HumphriesSkye was first persuaded to dance Lindy Hop by his mother in 1996, but quickly discovered his own love of social dancing, swing music and the Lindy Hop community. This led him to a wider interest in dance and he took classes in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. Since 1999 he has taught wherever Lindy Hop is done- from national weekends to international dance camps. He is a founding member of some the most influential modern Lindy Hop troupes including Minnie’s Moochers, Mad Dog, and the Silver Shadows. Skye has also won titles at all of the major Lindy Hop competitions including ULHS, ILHC, ALHC, and the World Lindy Hop Championships. This involvement with Lindy Hop sparked his wider interest in America’s history and cultural heritage leading him to pursue American Studies at The George Washington University where he received his master’s degree in 2007. Skye continues to be one of the most active instructors on the worldwide Lindy Hop scene and is a regular at Beantown Camp. He currently resides in London, England.

Naomi UyamaNaomi discovered Lindy Hop in her hometown of Washington DC over 17 years ago when she was in her teens. She has taught workshops all around the world and performed for dance and music legends alike. She has won champion titles at such prestigious competitions as ILHC, ULHS, ALHC, and the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. When she’s not traveling in the name of triple steps, decorating cakes, or loving libraries, Naomi lives in Minneapolis with her husband Peter Strom, where they also have a very active local dance studio. Naomi has a beautiful singing voice and has performed with some of the top national Swing bands, including the Gordon Webster Band, the Boilermaker Jazz Band and Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five. With her own band, Naomi & Her Handsome Devils, she’s appeared at major Swing events around the world. Naomi is also a regular instructor at Beantown Camp.

If not pre-registered, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to register. If you are not able to pre-register, submit an on-line registration form to help speed your registration on the day.

Refund Policy: There will be no refunds, however, transfers to another person will be accepted.

Covid Policy: We are excited to be back with the Skye & Naomi Workshop Weekend, including Uptown Swing Dance with the Gordon Webster Band. It is of utmost importance to provide as safe an environment as possible as we continue to deal with Covid-19 in our lives. Partner dancing is a high risk activity. However, there are things we can do to limit the risks, with the cooperation of all who attend. It is not possible to completely guarantee that no one will be exposed or infected with Covid-19 while participating. Please evaluate your comfort with the level of risk prior to deciding to attend.

Everyone will be required to show proof of up to date vaccines, including a booster if more than 6 months since your original vaccine shots, and received no later than 10 days prior to the weekend. Only one booster is required.

Masks will be required when indoors. As there is a huge protection difference with the variety available, acceptable masks include N95, KN95, KF94, and surgical masks. Cloth or vented masks are not acceptable.

What you can do prior to attending:

  • Limit exposure during the 10 days prior to weekend, especially indoor activities with groups of people.
  • Wear a mask while traveling on a plane or public transportation.
  • Do not attend if you are feeling any symptoms related to Covid-19.
  • If you have reason to believe you have been exposed to Covid-19 in the 10 days before, take a Covid-19 rapid test prior to attending.

Please send proof of vaccination to info@hoptothebeat.com. Your name will be added to an approved list. You do not need to send if you attended Beantown Camp 2022.

Shoes & Bags: Bring comfortable shoes such as clean dry sneakers or soft-soled flat dance shoes. Smoother soles have less traction and are better for easy turning and movement. (Hard soled shoes will scratch the floor finish.) Please change shoes on the entrance mat to help prevent outside wet, salt and grit from getting on the wood floor. Bags and street shoes should be left outside the gym so as to maximize the dance space.

Snacks & Drinks: You may want to bring snacks for the breaks. There are no vending machines in the building. There are nearby places to get food, however, there is nothing close enough to the workshop location if time is short.
