Class & Dance Cancellations
Hop to the Beat has cancelled all upcoming dance and class activities. This includes the Uptown Swing dance scheduled for Saturday, March 28, plus the new Boston and Newton March/April class sessions. Local Lindy Hop/Swing activities are in a similar position. These have been difficult and sad decisions for our dance community to make, however, we are experiencing a situation where our actions can make a difference to the spread of COVID-19. Let’s be optimistic by acting now in the hopes before long we’ll get back to our dancing activities we cherish so much. Feel free to be in touch if you have any questions.
Fall Update/Beantown Plans
October 25, 2021
Hope you are well and enjoying the fall weather. We’ve been hanging onto the warmer days as we get them. It’s a great release from the continuing issues we all need to deal with these days.
A couple of weeks ago we headed down to NYC for the spectacular Swing Out show. It surpassed our already high expectations, and was something truly special, reflecting the joy and playfulness of Lindy Hop. Hoping the show will be adding to the tour schedule, as this is something best to experience in person. In addition, we attended a wonderful event at the Woodlawn Cemetery, organized by Julia Loving and Ronald Jones, which included a visit to Frankie and Norma’s grave sites. It was an emotion packed weekend, and especially fantastic to connect in person with our Lindy Hop community.
Locally, we had a wonderful time at the first Boston Swing Central indoor dance. It felt a safe environment, with everyone vaccinated, masked, and limited attendance. A good start to our road back from Covid. Unfortunately there are still factors making it not yet time to get back to our own classes and dances. Something we are actively focused on is the potential for holding Beantown Camp in 2022. Missing two years has been difficult, however, we need to feel we can provide a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. For now, Beantown is on the calendar for June 23 to 30, and we’re tentatively working out plans.
In the mean time, we continue to stay connected to the dance world, and look forward to better days ahead. Holiday season is coming up, more things are opening. We wish you the best through these challenging times.
