Declaration Of Safe Space
Hop to the Beat is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable experience for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). Harassment of participants, or event staff is not tolerated in any form, including social situations at any event venue (including dances, classes, workshops, and competitions) and online media (including Twitter, Facebook, and other online social media).
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments (related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, OR religion), sexual language and images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of classes or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers, at their discretion, may take any action deemed appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the event organizers or a member of the event staff immediately.
Event staff will be happy to help participants contact local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and your safety.
All participants are expected to follow these rules for the entire duration of attending a Hop to the Beat event.
Being A Good Participant
Please do not offer unsolicited advice to fellow dancers either in class or on the social dance floor.
Be courteous and respectful to others, however, it is not required to dance with someone if you feel it is an uncomfortable situation. Trust your instincts.
Please use your full range of senses on the dance floor to avoid accidental collisions and injuries. It is every dancer’s responsibility to be aware of their own and their partner’s movement and position, as well as the movement and position of the dancers surrounding them, in order to avoid all forms of dangerous contact.
Please be respectful to event staff, even if you are experiencing a personal frustration. Without the goodwill of these individuals, a smoothly functioning event is impossible.
Be aware of your own boundaries and physical needs. Do not neglect your health, do wash your hands frequently, and do remember to take your meds if applicable.
Please help us make a fragrance-reduced environment by avoiding using highly fragranced products such as cologne, perfume, and scented lotions and gels. Our chemically-sensitive dancers thank you!
Covid/Contagious Diseases
Covid-19 is still in our lives, although thankfully in a place where we are able to enjoy the things we love. Partner dancing is a high risk activity, and it’s still necessary to take precautions to limit the risks. We can do that with the cooperation of all who attend. Taking precautions are not only for yourself, but for everyone attending. It is not possible to guarantee that no one will be exposed or infected with Covid-19, or any other contagious illness while participating. Please evaluate your comfort with the level of risk prior to deciding to attend.
Requirements may be adjusted based on changes in local conditions or adjustments to national guidelines:
- At this time, Covid vaccinations are not required, although highly encouraged.
- Mask wearing is optional. Suitable masks include N95, KN95, KF94, and surgical masks. Please be respectful of each person’s choice as to mask wearing, and courteous to others if asked to wear a mask when sharing a dance.
- It is highly recommended to get the latest booster prior to attending.
- Do not attend if you are feeling any symptoms related to Covid-19, the flu, or any contagious disease.
- If you have reason to believe you have been exposed to Covid-19 in the days prior to the event, take a Covid-19 rapid test prior to attending.
- Wash hands or use hand sanitizer frequently.
