Thank you to everyone who came out to Uptown Swing this past Saturday with the Toni Lynn Washington Band. As promised, Toni and her band gave us a fabulous night of Swing and the energy in the room was dynamic! There’s nothing better than a full room of happy, smiling faces:-)
New Session Lindy Hop/Swing Classes
Our new 6 week session of Lindy Hop classes starts this Sunday, October 24 back at Newton Lower Falls Community Center and Monday, October 25 at our new location, Ruggles Baptist Church in Boston. Here is what’s coming up:
- Beginner Swing/Intro to Lindy Hop - This class is for both brand new dancers and those with some experience who would like to build a better foundation and gain more confidence on the dance floor. Six count basics are covered along with a different selection of fun steps each session. There are 7 different sessions at this level, which can be taken in any order, providing the opportunity to develop a good base for social dancing while continuing to learn new steps. If you have any friends who are interested in learning to Swing dance, please send them along! This class meets in both Newton and Boston locations.
- Lindy Hop Level 2 - This class is aimed at intermediate level Swing dancers who can already comfortably social dance any style of triple-step Swing. It is not necessary to already know Lindy Hop. The class includes a mix of 8 and 6 count basics with a focus on technique and lead-follow connection. There are 6 or 7 different sessions at this level which continually change over time and can be taken in any order. Each session includes a mix of classic Charleston moves and newer variations. This class meets in both Newton and Boston locations.
- Understanding Lead/Follow Connection - This class is aimed at intermediate to advanced dancers who are already comfortable with Lindy Hop 8 count basics. We’ll be exploring ways to improve and expand connection skills as well as creating subtle differences in the lead and how follows can determine ways to react. Other topics include using connection to create variations out of basic moves and adding direction changes, turns and embellishments. This class will be ideal for taking your social dancing to a new level and meets on Sundays in Newton.
After classes on both Sundays and Mondays, we’ll be staying around for some practice time. This will be a great time to work with other classmates and hopefully enhance the whole learning experience. Practice is good:-)

If you are planning to attend any of these classes and have not already done so, it would be helpful if you would submit an on-line registration to speed up check-in. You can pay in advance by credit card through PayPal or at the first class by check or cash. Thanks!
Skye Humphries & Naomi Uyama Lindy Hop Workshop Weekend
There is still one week left to register for the Skye and Naomi workshops at the early bird prices, expiring on Wednesday, October 27! You do not need to do the full weekend as workshops are a la carte. The price is only $15 per workshop with even greater savings for 4 or more. To get this great deal, a completed registration with payment must be received by the early bird due date. Sending a check postmarked by October 27 will also qualify.
Skye and Naomi are highly sought out instructors and we are looking forward to having them back here in the Boston area. There is a variety of classes to choose from with great stuff for all levels! It is going to be an awesome weekend.
Please note that there are 2 locations for the classes. Friday and Sunday will be taking place in Newton Lower Falls and Saturday will be in Brookline (workshops and dance).
