Skye & Naomi Workshops this Weekend; Uptown Swing Dance this Saturday; New Class Session

The Skye and Naomi weekend is almost here and it is going to be awesome! There is a full schedule of activities to keep everyone dancing from Friday evening through Sunday. Great music, great classes and plenty of great local and visiting dancers!

Uptown Swing Dance

Join us this Saturday, November 27 for our monthly Uptown Swing Dance. This month we are thrilled to have back the very fabulous Gordon Webster with his band, including the beautiful vocals of Naomi Uyama! Also featured during the evening will be a demo with Skye and Naomi that you won’t want to miss. Extra for this month, the dance has been extended to run until 12:30am.

The atmosphere is fun and friendly and beginners are very welcome. You do not need to come with a partner. Brookline Tai Chi is a great space with a smooth wood floor and a convenient location on Beacon Street in Brookline. For those taking the T, it is directly across from the Washington Square stop on the Green Line. If you want to come early for dinner or a drink, there are plenty of places nearby. Street parking is free after 6:00pm. You can find all of the details on our website:

Workshop Parking Information

In Newton Lower Falls, please park in the inside parking lot only (near the entrance to the Lower Falls Community Center). The front and back parking lots belong to the Senior Center. There is plenty of on-street parking.

In Brookline, after 6:00pm meters are free. Here is the scoop we got for the daytime from Brookline Tai Chi: “There should be plenty of parking along Beacon St. on a Saturday. The diagonal spaces along the median are usually a good option, with two caveats: the closest ones switch over to valet parking for the Chinese restaurant up the street around 5pm (they’re marked) and if anyone parks in non-metered spaces on Beacon or side streets, Brookline has a two-hour max rule that they enforce inconsistently.”

New Session Lindy Hop/Swing and Balboa Classes

Information is up for our next 6 week session of Lindy Hop and Balboa classes, the first session of 2011! New classes in Beginner Swing/Intro to Lindy Hop Level 1 and Lindy Hop Level 2 will again be offered in both Newton Lower Falls starting Sunday evenings on January 9 and in Boston on Monday evenings on January 10.

We have a new class for intermediate to advanced Lindy Hoppers on Partner Charleston. We’ll be covering a new variety of partner Charleston moves to add to your Lindy Hop repertoire while focusing on execution and pizazz to make it look really cool:-) This class will meet on Sundays in Newton.

On Monday nights in Boston we have added a Beginning Balboa class. It has been quite awhile since we taught a class for those new to Balboa, so if this is something you have been wanting to learn, join us Mondays in January! We’ll be covering the core moves as well as technique and style that gives Balboa its own special flavor. This class will be ideal for those new to Balboa as well as those wanting to review and refine basics.

Full information, on-line registration and directions are available at:

Best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving. Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

Happy dancing,
Aurelie & Tony
